As the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League gets underway next week, ESPN Classic takes a look back at one the most memorable European encounters of all time. For the second time, Wembley played host to the European Cup Final, and with United missing their high scoring forward Denis Law, the game looked uncertain. The temperature clearly played a part in the players’ fitness in extra time, with George Best putting United in the lead again three minutes into extra time. United’s win meant that they became the first English team to win the European Cup, just a year after Celtic had become the first British team to do so.
